There are many tools that allow developers to install and manage multiple Erlang and Elixir versions. In such cases, you can also opt to use a version manager. You can use the Erlang/Elixir packages that are part of your distribution, although those may lag behind in version numbers (especially for LTS releases). On Unix systems, there are two options to install Elixir. Note version managers (described below), are also available for macOS.

Many of the instructions below will automatically install Erlang for you. Note that Elixir v1.15 requires Erlang 24.0 or later. If not available, then we recommend the precompiled packages or compiling it. The quickest way to install Elixir is through a distribution or using one of the available installers.
